Silicon Valley Only Has to Win Once

Silicon Valley, or technology generally, has disrupted many industries. Some it has taken over completely. Others its in the process of assimilating or capturing most of the value out of. Think about things like job postings, apartment listings, and personal ads. Or think about what Amazon is doing in retail or Uber/Lyft to the taxi industry.

In all of these cases, Silicon Valley is on offense and the target industries are on defense. That means it’s ultimately only a matter of time before Silicon Valley succeeds in taking over or wreaking havoc in the industries it targets. They only have to win once. The incumbents have to win 100% of the time.

If I were in the car business or the food business or other areas where tech oriented companies are playing, I’d be worried.

The real question I don’t hear anyone asking is how can Silicon Valley itself and the tech industry as currently construed be disrupted and displaced?  Who wants to go on offense against them?
