I was stoked to get to meet and spend time talking with America’s parking guru, Donald Shoup of UCLA. The author of the book The High Cost of Free Parking, Shoup has revolutionized how we think about parking in the US.
While he was in New York I recorded a City Journal podcast with him focused on on-street parking. We discuss the right price for parking meters, how some prices in San Francisco actually went down after “Shoupification”, and what new technology holds for the future of on-street parking.
If the audio doesn’t display for you, click over to listen at City Journal. For those who subscribe to my podcast, I’ll include the audio in my feed in a couple of weeks.
Shoup is also the editor of Access Magazine, which translates academic transportation research into articles accessible to the lay reader. Be sure to check it out.
